Studies show that using the newspaper in the classroom on a consistent basis increases students' reading, writing
and critical thinking skills. Students using newspapers in the classroom also tend to possess greater awareness of local, national and global
events, better background knowledge and stronger vocabularies. In partnership with educators, NIE develops educational resources that allow
teachers to easily integrate newspapers into their exciting curricula. Our materials are structured to carefully align with Ohio state content standards
and support educational goals for most grade levels.
The NIE program is funded completely by contributions from community residents and businesses. Cox Ohio Publishing, Inc.,
parent company of the Dayton Daily News, Springfield News-Sun, The Middletown Journal and the JournalNews (Hamilton), pays all supporting expenses
such as curriculum guides, supplements and workshops.
Your generosity serves as a commitment to the educational foundation of our communities. Sponsorship opportunities
can be tailored to your business, and one hundred percent of your donation is used to provide newspapers to area classrooms.
The NIE program has existed for more than 20 years and continues to grow. In the new millennium, we have distributed more than
2,000,000 newspapers each year to local classrooms. Your support helps us to meet ever-expanding demand for classroom newspapers and educational supplements.
